Tim Royal received his bachelor's degree from Simpson College (now University) and his Master of Divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He has pastored for the last twelve years. He is the recipient of the LifeWay Pastoral Leadership Award- 2003 (By GGBTS Presidential Nomination); Wright-Bramlett Christian Leadership Award 2001(by faculty election); and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities 2001(by faculty election).
Pastor Tim accepted the mantle of Senior Pastor at Halcyon Baptist Church in January 2007 with the blessing of our beloved Pastor Dave Douglas upon his retirement in July of 2006. Pastor Tim immediately suggested a revision of the church purpose statement from our previous very strong statement to one we could all remember which fits both the old statement and reflects strongly the character of our beloved family of believers.
- Love God
- Love One Another
- Love All People
Family is huge for Pastor Tim as is demonstrated by his deep love for his wife of 25 years, Janet Lee and their four children. This is also demonstrated by his commitment to his church family. His door and his heart are open to all who need him, and he strives to see that his values for spiritual family and community are the heart and soul of Halcyon Baptist Church.
His favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV), "I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future."
Joseph Simon, our praise and worship director, came to us like a miracle from God on the same day our previous director left HBC. Joseph has taken this ministry to a whole new level. He says,
"I’ve always felt that music is a God given gift, and it took many years for me to realize that what’s been given to me in music should be returned to the Lord in praise and worship music. All members on my team hold positions of leadership. I’m always looking for people who are dedicated with a team spirit and followers of Christ."
All members of our team understand:
Ephesians 4:11-13 (NIV) “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
"Therefore, by the leading of the Holy Spirit under the guidance of our senior pastor, the praise and worship ministry seeks to develop a unified team with mature, humble, committed, passionate, skilled leader and team members while maintaining a ministry of excellence and diversity through music and the arts."
After 30 years as a licensed insurance professional, Janie retired. A week later her church’s secretarial position became available. She applied for it and the rest is history.
Janie loves the four half days of work after which she picks up her beloved grandson from school and sits for him. Sometimes she wonders what happened to retirement!
Her passion is reading the Bible and looking forward to what God points out to her at that reading. Her favorite passage is Proverbs 3:27, which she says changed her life.
NIV Proverbs 3:27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.
“Working with the staff and other Halcyon members has been a remarkable experience”, declares Janie. She says if it happened earlier in life, her hair wouldn’t be so gray.
Diane has been married to Charles for 45 years and they have three children; Keith, Stephen, and Candi and one granddaughter; Olivea.
Her objective in ministry is to utilize the God given gifts and talents she has developed to minister to others. Her smiling face and cheery disposition are very familiar to the 114 churches of the East Bay Baptist Association as she has sought to do ministry with and for them for 14 years as L.E.A.D. center director. Her nickname at the church is "Handle It" and she always does. Her vast experience in areas ranging from mission trips to training events to administrative detail make her a priceless member of the Halcyon team.
Life verse: “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
